Launch of History Check is an Incredible Achievement!

History Check is an Incredible Achievement!

Likening the History Check App to the roadside signs of the technological age was part of Evert Poor’s speech at the Official Launch of History Check at the Provincial Archives of Alberta on October 4th, 2017..   He spoke in his capacity as a board member of Alberta Historical Resources Foundation, who provided a research grant to help gather documentation of historical sites and stories to be shared on the mobile app.

Evert Poor, whose has a technical background, described the launch of History Check in less than 1000 days as both a tremendous accomplishment and very impressive.

Rene Georgopalis, Executive Director – Archives Society of Alberta also spoke during the launch which was timed during Archives Week.  Archival photographs from various archives across Alberta and Canada are used with permissions and credits inside the History Check App.

Offering his support of the project, Chief Calvin Bruneau of Papaschase First Nation stated that inclusive projects such as History Check are important in educating and creating awareness of the histories of the Indigenous peoples.

Off to a strong start with positive feedback, numerous collaborators and over 200 downloads History Check promises to be the new way to explore the history, engage in the culture and experience all northern Alberta has to offer.

We encourage local historians, direct marketing organizations and businesses to submit their information.  History Check is not meant to replace existing site but to be a guide to them.  We hope you will join us in this incredible journey.

Sheila Willis, Executive Director – FHNAS
